HOME FARM, Mitford Road, Benhall

This EADT photograph was purchased from ebay in 2022, date stated as November 1965, location Benhall, Suffolk. The property was thought to be Home Farm and possibly Dick Sharman with bicycle.
Dick’s son Bob Sharman advised: Yes, it is Home Farm and the date would be around mid-sixties. It’s not my father, it is his oldest brother Len Sharman who lived at Kelsale. He went to work for John Pepper in 1939 when John was quite young. He cycled back and forth every day.
Len was a gifted horseman, like my grandfather. He would also be seen with huge hessian sacks of hogweed on his bike which he picked from the hedgerows for his show Dutch rabbits. This was a passion of his, he won many prizes and also judged the breed. Len wrote a book on pieces of his life which was published called “Working the Land” and he was also interviewed for and appeared on a television series called “All our working lives”. My father went to work with him at Home Farm in 1966.

Manette Baillie added: Definitely Home Farm. I remember John and Marjorie Pepper well. John lent me paddocks for my horse, never charging me. Marjorie was kind, homely and often finished sentences with, "And that there." Their daughter Anne borrowed my Governess trap to ride to her wedding! Memories, memories.
