NAUTILUS
You will probably have received the Nautilus Interconnector leaflet from National Grid Ventures. They are being delivered to 10,000 homes in the area.
To summarise the proposal, Nautilus is a project to construct a cable link between UK and Belgium, through which power can be shared to even out supply and demand. It also will be built as a multi-purpose interconnector so that a number of future windfarms can be connected without additional on-shore installations. All good so far, but Nautilus will require an on-shore converter station, covering 5 hectares, within 5 kilometres of the proposed sub-station at Friston.
The current consultation is to seek views on options for landfall, cable routes, and converter station sites. The leaflet gives just basic information, and only sketch maps. To find out more go to www.nationalgrid.com/our-businesses/national-grid-ventures/interconnectors-connecting-cleaner-future/nautilus-interconnector
Scroll down to Document Library and select documents to read. In particular, look at Briefing Pack – September 2021, and Maps – September 2021. Do note that each search area shown for the converter station is somewhat larger than the 5 hectares required (5 hectares equates to a square with sides of 225m). There are five search areas, with 1 and 2 largely within Sternfield.
The Parish Council encourages you to respond to the consultation so the National Grid Ventures are aware of the views of the community. It would also be useful if you advise the Parish Clerk clerk.benhall@gmail.com of your views by 17 October, so that these can be taken into account when the Parish Council responds.
